Jerry Blanchard focuses his practice on financial institutions. He advises clients on all aspects of commercial and private lending, collections, troubled debt restructuring, distressed loan sales and bankruptcy management. He has dealt extensively with state and federal laws and regulations such as anti-tying, privacy and Sarbanes-Oxley. He is the author of "Lender Liability: Law, Practice and Prevention" and is co-author of "Problem Loan Workouts," both published by West. He is a frequent speaker in the areas of loan documentation, bankruptcy and lender liability and is experienced in the investigation of financial frauds and scams.
Hampton Boles is a Partner of Balch & Bingham LLP. Mr. Boles serves as General Counsel to the Alabama Bankers Association. His practice consists primarily of advising banks and other creditors, insurance companies and real estate developers in corporate, financial and regulatory matters. He is a member of the firm's Real Estate, Lending and Commercial Practice Group. Mr. Boles has drafted or participated in drafting substantial portions of the current Alabama Banking Code. He examines and advises a variety of clients regarding proposed state legislation and proposed state agency regulations and rules. He describes the effect of proposed legislation and regulations upon various industries, prepares and offers corrective amendments, drafts proposed legislation, and formulates industry and client positions with respect to legislation and regulations.
Hanson Borders brings more than 19 years of financial auditing and consulting experience to his role as partner-in-charge at Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC. He is responsible for the ongoing servicing of financial institution clients, which includes overseeing the completion of engagements such as opinion audits and tax services, internal audits, SEC compliance issues and management advisory services. He is responsible for on-site supervision of professional staff and their compliance with all professional and regulatory standards. He also oversees the offices’ management advisory services which consist of de novo bank formations, S corporation conversions and other advisory services. He has worked with Mauldin & Jenkins since receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Accounting from The University of Georgia. He received his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Finance from Georgia State University.
K.C. Conway has 25-years real estate industry experience that spans appraisal, lending, equity investment, litigation-support, portfolio management and bank regulatory compliance. He holds both the MAI and CRE designations, and he specializes in real estate market analysis. In 2007, KC was the recipient of the Appraisal Institute’s Presidential Recognition Award for his “outstanding professional accomplishments within the valuation profession.” KC is the designated real estate Subject Matter Expert for the Atlanta Federal Reserve bank, and he works in the Policy and Supervisory Studies unit in the Department of Supervision and Regulation. In June of 2007, KC, was invited to provide Chairman Bernanke and the Board of Governors with a special real estate and state-of- housing briefing.
After graduation from Emory's School of Business, he commenced his career in real estate as an appraiser. After earning his MAI designation in 1989 as a fee appraiser for Cushman & Wakefield and the former Equitable Real Estate, he pursed workout, portfolio management and investment experience with such companies as Deloitte & Touche, Wells Fargo Bank and Prudential. In 1997, KC joined SouthTrust Bank (now part of Wachovia) as their Director of Underwriting to start a commercial real estate conduit. In 1999, SouthTrust promoted KC to Sr. VP and National Director of Real Estate Market Analysis in which he developed a proprietary system to monitor, risk rate and manage a $10+ billion real estate portfolio spread across 28 states in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast & Southwest US. In 2005, he joined the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank, and in March 2009 he was awarded the prestigious CRE (Counselor of Real Estate) designation.
Frank consults nationwide with CEOs and CFOs of banks to increase earnings through the proactive management of capital, liquidity/funding risk, and interest rate risk. Prior to joining DCG, Frank was Vice President at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, where he consulted in areas of asset/liability management, pricing theory, liquidity and capital management. He is a frequent speaker and author on topics such as industry issues and trends, funding solutions, regulatory issues, interest rate risk management, capital management, and derivatives hedging techniques. Frank graduated magna cum laude from Siena College in Albany, N.Y., and holds an accounting degree from Albany Business College.
Mr. Schmidt joined Promontory after a distinguished 33 year career in bank supervision with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. From 2002 through 2009, he was the Regional Director of the FDIC’s Atlanta Region, overseeing bank supervision matters in seven states.
Mr. Schmidt joined the FDIC in 1976 as a bank examiner trainee. After rising to the level of Assistant Regional Director in Kansas City, Mr. Schmidt joined the FDIC’s Washington Office in 1996. In 1997, Mr. Schmidt was named Associate Director (Operations) where he was responsible for examination activities, applications and problem bank matters. In 1998, he became Associate Director (Policy), overseeing bank supervision policy development and implementation. He was named Regional Director of the Atlanta Region in 2002.
Lois Woodward is a Partner in Balch & Bingham LLP’s Birmingham office. She specializes in advising clients who offer products and services to consumers and small businesses. Among her clients are businesses in a variety of industries, including banks and other financial institutions, utilities and motor vehicle dealerships. She is a member of the firm's Real Estate, Lending and Commercial Practice Group.
